Emina is a Financial Controller in charge of the management accounts of a number of investee companies of the funds managed by Iona. She is responsible for the day to day transactions, payments and overall compliance as well as being the key liaison with both the suppliers and the Board.
Prior to joining Iona, Emina was a member of Marsh McLennan’s finance function where she was an integral part of the Fiduciary and Corporate Bank team, with a specific focus on the foreign currency transactions. Emina has a degree in Accounting and Finance from Kent University and is a member Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. She is also fluent in both Bosnian and Croatian
Richard is a consultant to Iona and also sits on its Investment Committee. He brings over 20 years experience in the clean tech sector, investment banking and strategic consulting. Richard was most recently the CEO of Biogen, the UK’s leading food waste AD builder and operator.
Prior to Biogen, Richard was the CEO of RecovCo, a specialist aluminium recycler that acquired and operated Alcan’s French recycling business.
He has also founded and raised funding for a number of other entrepreneurial businesses.
Earlier in his career, he was Head of Strategy for ANZ Investment Bank in Australia, focused on the Australasia and the Emerging Markets.
He has also been a strategy consultant on a range of international projects for MMG and AT Kearnery after lecturing in Economics at University College Cork in Ireland. Richard has an MEng in Engineering Economics and Management from Oxford University.
Christophe graduated from one of the top French High Schools in 1985. Prior to joining the Veolia group in 1990 Christophe has been working for the French Nuclear Agency on Deep Geological Storage of nuclear waste and as consultant for KPMG for 4 years, involved in business organisation and management accounting for blue chip companies.
Since he joined the Group, Christophe has been involved in the development of the Group in France and abroad. Since 1996 he has been in charge of the PPP-PFI market development in the UK; he was in charge of securing major contracts on behalf Veolia in the UK: Sheffield PPP, East Sussex, City of Westminster, Nottingham, Shropshire, West Berkshire, LB Southwark, Staffordshire, Hertfordshire and Leeds.
He has been leading through the acquisition of Biffa Belgium, the Simpro Group and Boomeco in 2015. He is currently Corporate Development Director of Veolia UK and Ireland and a member of the Executive Committee.
He is also a Trustee of the Veolia pension fund.
Liam joined Iona as an Investment Analyst in 2023. His main responsibilities include assessing the potential of future investments, tracking the performance of the existing portfolio and financial modelling.
Prior to joining Iona Liam spent three years at an infrastructure project finance advisory firm, working as a financial modeller and financial advisor. During these three years Liam worked on projects from inception to financial close across many different sectors including energy, accommodation, health and transport. Liam graduated from the University of Bath in 2019 with an MEng in Chemical Engineering.
Bassel joined Iona in 2018 and works as an Associate. His responsibilities include assessment of potential projects, financial modelling, due diligence and fund tracking.
Prior to joining Iona, Bassel completed his end of studies internship at Barclays Private Bank in Monaco. He also had experiences in Beirut, Strasbourg, Nice and Munich, where he developed his financial modelling skills in private equity. Bassel graduated from SKEMA Business School with a MSc Corporate Finance.
Phil joined Iona in 2013 and is a Director of the Company. Phil leads the investment team and sits on the Company’s Board, as well as the Asset Management and Investment Committees.
Phil has specific responsibility for delivering investment into projects and has worked on all the transactions that Iona has completed to date. Phil also sits on a number of the investee company boards overseeing the building and commissioning programs.
Prior to joining Iona, Phil ran a successful consultancy business and led a number of major waste infrastructure projects in the UK and provided commercial advice to infrastructure projects of national significance across a range of sectors.
Phil’s key roles during his time running his consultancy include; Project Director for six waste PFI/PPP projects with combined contract value of c.£5bn, Commercial Adviser to the UK governments Waste Infrastructure Delivery Programme, Commercial Director for a £500m automotive development, Commercial Adviser on the development of new sewerage infrastructure in London, Commercial Adviser for the acquisition of a large portfolio of renewables infrastructure and Commercial Adviser for the acquisition of an airport.
Prior to leading his consultancy Phil was the Head of Housing and Sustainability for a large London Borough with responsibility for c.1,700 staff and an annual budget of over £500m. Phil has a BEng in Engineering with Environmental Studies.
David joins us from Queensland, Australia as a Commerical Finance Manager responsible for the financial reporting, management accounts and overall compliance for a number of the investee entities of the funds managed by Iona.
Before making the move to the UK, David spent 5 years with Fulton Hogan, a large construction and infrastructure services company in Australia and New Zealand. Starting off as a finance graduate, he worked his way through several roles until ultimately managing the finance function for the greater South East Queensland region while overseeing a small team.
David has a degree in Business and Accounting from James Cook University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in 2022.
Katie joined the Iona team as In-House Counsel at the start of 2024 after making the shift from the very bottom of New Zealand in 2023. Katie’s focus as In-House Counsel is to align governance across the Iona Capital portfolio as well as assisting on a range of legal matters. As a part of her role Katie is also responsible for managing Iona group, subsidiary and committee meeting processes as well as statutory compliance.
Katie is a qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, having been admitted to the bar in 2021. Prior to joining Iona Katie worked as a Senior Solicitor at AWS Legal in Invercargill, New Zealand from 2019 to 2023 where she specialised in rural conveyancing, rural leases, wills and trusts and employment law. Katie obtained a double degree in Law and Arts from the University of Otago in 2020.
Stuart joined the Iona team as an Investment Director in 2014. He has over 14 years’ experience in renewable energy project development, working as an engineering consultant, technical adviser, project developer and investment manager. He spent a number of years working in the waste PFI / PPP sector, acting as technical adviser to a number of senior debt providers and investors active in the sector.
Part of the Investments Team, Stuart’s role is to source and lead the development of projects to financial close, and then sit on the board of the projects until they reach operational stability. Stuart was previously responsible for the inception and development of the anaerobic digestion consultancy business at Fichtner Consulting Engineers where he supported a number of Iona’s projects as a technical adviser. He has a degree in Physics and a Masters in Environmental Innovation from the University of Manchester.
Ewan Gorford joined the investment team at Iona in 2016 and has specific responsibility for power purchase agreements and energy optimisation strategies.
Before joining Iona, Ewan worked as a consultant in the renewables sector working on diversification strategies in the water drilling industry. He has also worked in areas as diverse as business strategy and development, commercial negotiation and trend analysis.
Prior to this he worked for the British Government, during which time he worked on five continents, often for extended time periods under arduous and pressurised conditions. This culminated in developing policing and governance in Southern Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force.
John joined Iona in 2011 and is the Chairman of the Investment Committee established by the Company to oversee all investment decisions. John also sits on the board as chairman of a number of Investee Companies.
John served as Finance Director and Deputy Chief Executive of Veolia Environmental Services (the UK’s largest Waste Management Company) since its establishment in the UK in 1990. During that time, he acquired a wide experience of the UK waste management industry including municipal, commercial and industrial waste management, waste treatment including landfill, incineration and recycling. In particular he was responsible for negotiating and managing large integrated waste PPP and PFI projects.
Prior to that, John spent 19 years in the construction industry including serving as Finance Director for Tarmac Construction International and Transmanche Link (the joint venture constructing the Channel Tunnel).
Before construction, John worked in the accountancy profession including 6 years with KPMG both in the UK, Middle East and Australia.
John is an FCA, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management as well as its Honorary Treasurer.
Michael is a Senior Investment Manager, who joined Iona in 2017. He has over ten years’ experience in infrastructure project finance having previously worked as a financial modeler and adviser for a financial advisory boutique.
Michael’s past experience includes the development of bespoke financial models and financial advisory from project inception through to financial close across the Health, Higher Education and Renewable Energy sectors. Michael is a Chartered Financial Analyst, charterholder and has a Msc in Financial Markets & Investment from SKEMA Business School.
Graham joined Iona as an Investment Director in 2016. As a member of the investment team, Graham is responsible for sourcing and executing new investments.
Graham is a qualified lawyer, having been admitted as a solicitor in 2005. Prior to joining Iona, he was a director at Walker Morris in their corporate team, advising a wide range of clients on M&A and private equity transactions and joint venture projects with a particular focus on the renewable energy sector. Drawing from his wide ranging experience, Graham also advises the team on legal matters.
David is a board adviser to Iona Capital and sits as a NED on the board of Haworth ASL Ltd, an advanced ABP processing business.
David’s input as an Iona board adviser is drawn in part from his experience gained from his personal investments in plastic recycling and recovery businesses, which has proved very useful in deal sourcing within this sector, and the broader renewables sector.
David’s contribution also extends to the provision of advice within the institutional fund raising arena, where David can draw from his successful 25 year career in investment banking where he ultimately managed the equity trading business for a leading European investment bank.
Peter joined Iona in 2017 as Director of Operations. He has previously worked as a regulator in the environmental sector and for the last twenty five years as a senior manager for several waste management and recycling businesses.
Peter has extensive experience in the design, build, operation and maintenance of solid waste treatment, resource recovery and renewable energy facilities. In addition to this he has previously led a successful bid team, securing numerous supply contracts to facilities under his management. Peter will oversee all operational elements of Iona’s deployed assets whilst also heading-up the Group’s management services provider, Tean Management Services.
Rebecca joined the Iona investment team in 2015. She is responsible for the technical management of Iona’s existing assets: this includes assessing and reporting on the design and operation of the facilities, developing and evaluating proposals for facility upgrades and improvement works, and working with the operators to ensure the facilities are optimised.
Rebecca also provides technical support for the development of new projects, and is working with a number or research and development projects to ensure Iona is aware of new technologies to the renewables market.
Prior to joining Iona, Rebecca was head of Anaerobic Digestion (AD) at Fichtner Consulting Engineers and prior to that a Project Engineer at Williams Industrial Services. Rebecca has a PhD from Queens University Belfast, her researched focussed on the production of renewable fuels from waste. Rebecca also graduated with a 1st class honours MEng in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University Belfast.
George is the Group Financial Controller responsible for financial reporting, management accounts and overall compliance for a number of the investee entities of the funds managed by Iona.
George joined us from the South Island of New Zealand where she spent 4 years with Deloitte Audit and Advisory, during which time she managed audits for clients across a wide range of industries in New Zealand and Australia. A move into industry saw George working to develop a finance team and processes in a fast-growing SME before moving to the UK. George has a degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Otago and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in 2017.
Nick is a Director of Iona, setting up the Company with Mike Dunn in 2011. Nick sits on the Company’s Management and Investment Committees.
Nick has worked on a number of investment transactions within the portfolio and sits on the Board of the following investee companies; Keithick Biogas, St Boswells Biogas, Advantage Biogas and Newbridge Energy.
He is also responsible for the Company’s fund raising strategy and engagement with limited partners. Prior to joining Iona he held senior positions at Electra Partners, the private equity specialist from 1993 to 2010. Nick has a degree in Economics from Nottingham University and was a member of the Institute of Investment Management and Research which was the predecessor of the Chartered Financial Association (CFA)
Julia joined Iona Capital in 2011 as a financial analyst and is a part of the Investment Team.
She is heavily involved in driving investments to completion and takes ongoing transitional roles sitting on asset boards and thus contributes to the ongoing underlying asset performance.
She sits on the board of Brocklesby Biogas a 70,000 tonnes p.a. food waste Anaerobic Digestion investment based in Hull. Julia’s most recent project was Bridgwater Resource Recovery, a 100,000 tonnes p.a. Energy from Waste facility in Somerset which achieved a financial close in Nov 2018. Her main investment focus is the EfW sector.
Linda is a Financial Controller in charge of the Iona group’s management accounts.
Prior to joining Iona, Linda worked at a few private equity funds including Intermediate Capital Group plc, APAX Partners and Goldentree Insite Partners, where her role as a fund accountant included production of management accounts, financial reporting both in UK and US GAAP, preparing income and capital allocations, coordinating and assisting with independent auditors, etc.
Linda has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Rhode Island College (USA) and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Magdalena is a Management Accountant, with responsibility for producing the management accounts for a number of investee companies of the funds managed by Iona. Magdalena reviews the day-to-day transactions, undertakes cash flow management, oversees financial reporting processes, contributing to budgeting and forecasting, and offers financial guidance and support to the operations team.
Prior to Iona, Magdalena held positions in finance and administration in both the UK and Poland. Magdalena has a Bachelor’s in Management from the University of Gdansk and is AAT qualified.
Alex is a Financial Controller in charge of the management accounts of several investee companies of the funds managed by Iona. He is responsible for the day to day transactions, payments, reporting and overall compliance as well as being the key liaison with suppliers, operations team, and the Board.
Prior to joining Iona, Alex was a member the finance team of a further education college in Hertfordshire where he was an integral part of the college purchase ledger team, and produced management accounts for their subsidiary companies.
Alex is a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Katrina joined Iona in April 2024 as Assistant Accountant, with responsibility for day-to-day invoicing, payments, and processing of transactions.
Prior to Iona, Katrina was a member of the finance team at a privately owned manufacturing company in the Scottish Borders where she was an integral part of the team assisting mainly with the day-to-day credit control functions.
Alex is an Investment Director who joined Iona in 2015 having previously provided financial modelling advice to the team since its inception. He has over ten years of broad experience in infrastructure project finance specialising in PFI / PPP, waste and property transactions.
As a member of the investment team, Alex’s role is to source and develop projects to financial close, and then to sit on the board of the projects until they reach operational stability.
Originally from a financial advisory background, he also provides wider support to the team in senior debt financing, financial documentation, refinancing, valuation and financial modelling.
Alex is a chartered accountant and has a degree in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College London.
Alessia is a Management Accountant, with responsibility for day-to-day invoicing, payments, and transactions, and preparing management accounts.
Before joining us, Alessia worked in a Property Management company, assisting with the preparation of property accounts, as part of her office administrator role. Alessia has a BSc in Psychology from the University of Sussex and is studying towards her ACCA qualification.
Colm is the Finance Director and Compliance Officer of Iona, and sits on the Company’s Board, as well as the Asset Management and Investment Committees.
Colm has responsibility for Iona’s financial strategy, as well as the firm’s finance and compliance functions. He is also responsible for investor reporting, and is a member of the funds’ Advisory Committees.
Prior to joining Iona, Colm held senior finance positions at Bowmark Capital LLP and RIT Capital Partners plc, with over 25 years of financial services experience since graduating from Queen’s University Belfast. Colm holds a BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
Mark has over 20 years’ experience in the energy & waste sector, working on a wide range of projects including residual waste PFI schemes, multiple renewable energy projects, energy from waste and major conventional power projects. A qualified lawyer, Mark has advised a range of senior debt and equity investors across the sector, and has experience of acting as a board director of a range of project companies, developers and technology businesses in the sector.
Part of the Investments Team, Mark’s role is to source and lead the development of projects to financial close, and remain on the board of project companies until they achieve a steady state of operations.
